“For since the creation of the world God’s incredible qualities- His eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
I remember the exact moment this picture was taken. It was my first backpacking trip in Colorado. Being from West Virginia, I thought I knew mountains and don’t get me wrong- the Appalachians are beautiful- but I had never experienced anything like the Rockies. It was amazing! After an exhausting climb up and many hours singing John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High,” I finally came around the bend of the trail to see this… I was left speechless! The trout were jumping everywhere across the lake, elk were grazing on the peaks and the sky was a bright blue. I was completely speechless!
It is amazing how the outdoors has the ability to hook us with just one experience! Some travel the country in hopes of tagging the high peaks while others are seeking that next place to cast a hook or work a fly rod. Then there are those who are driven by the pursuit of that trophy buck or the sight of a long beard coming in on a string. For me personally, there is nothing like working a group of mallards or pintails over a spread of decoys and with a retriever that’s only desire is to have feathers in their mouth one more time.
Regardless of your passion, all of us have been crippled by the sheer beauty of God’s creation. Even Paul experienced it. He explains in Romans 1:20 that we are without excuse, everything in creation points to the Lord! Nature has this unique ability to remind us of His power and authority. It can teach lessons of endurance and trust. It creates time for fellowship and growth. The list can goes on and on! But above all else, the outdoors has the ability to reminds us of His incredible love for us. That is what we are all about here. So join us each week as we experience God through the great outdoors!
